Candlestick Park Pt.5 THE END - San Francisco, California

Music - Home by the sea by Genesis

Photographed in 2014 using digital.

The last ever football game at Candlestick Park. Albeit it was a charity event organized by Joe Montana. One last hurrah for the 49er greats against a team of NFL alumni led by Dan Marino. The last drive by Joe and he throws a "game winning" touchdown pass to Eddie DeBartolo Jr., the onetime owner of the 49ers. It was corny, but a GREAT way to say goodbye to the "Stick."

Candlestick was what it was, no frills, cramped concourses, bad weather, a bitch to get in and out of, but it had the magic. Teams HATED playing there. Especially when the GIants called it home. Fog rolling in like a Stephen King novel, over the 3rd base side. Howling, bone chilling winds (In JULY no less) made Candlestick a house of horrors. The Stick is near the end of the line. One last event in August which is a Paul McCartney concert. As you probably know, the Beatles played their last public live paying concert at the Stick in 1966.

Time marches on and later in 2014, the city will start to tear down Candlestick. All that will be left are the memories and ghosts of the Giants and 49ers.
