Angel Town Holtville - 1966 - 1979 Demolished in the 90's.

Location - E 7th Street and Webb Ave. Holtville. The little league field in Mack Park is where the old Angels Clubhouse once stood. Area is now all housing and a little league field.

From 1966 thru 1979, the first two weeks of spring training for the California Angels were held in Holtville, a dusty hot spot just off I-8 in Imperial County, California. Then the team would pack up and leave the "carrot capitol of the world" for Palm Springs, about 90 miles northwest of Holtville. The players pretty much hated it, read NOTHING to do..... Holtville is small, and literally in the middle of nowhere. Located about 60 miles west of Yuma, Arizona (where the Padres used to train) and 120 miles east of San Diego off I-8. Nothing is left of the former complex which housed 4 practice fields, clubhouses and a makeshift park. Sadly, nothing is left as the complex was torn down in the 90's to make way for housing. The little league field at the southwest corner of 7th and Webb has the only remaining piece of the complex. A cement slab where the old Angels clubhouse once stood. Holtville had a small part in the history of the California Angels. I stumbled across the site by stopping at the chamber of commerce. Unfortunately, there are FEW photos of the Angels training here and all I can contribute are photos from today, May 28th 2014.
