McNichols Arena (Big Mac) - Opened in 1975 , closed and demolished in 1999 The site is now the southwest parking lot for Sports Authority Field at Mile High. Official name was the McNichols Sports Arena.
McNichols main tenant was the Denver Nuggets. They played there from the time the building opened till it closed.
Big Mac also hosted the Denver Spurs of the WHA from 75 thru 76 before they moved to Ottawa to become the Civics. They also hosted the transplanted Kansas City Scouts / Colorado Rockies from 1976 thru 1982. The Rockies moved to New Jersey to become the Devils. The Colorado Flames of the CHL played here as did the Colorado Avalanche of the NHL...from 1995 till the building closed. The Denver Grizzlies of the IHL played from 94 thru 95. The Denver Dynamite of the AFL played here twice. First in 1987 then from 1989 thru 1991.

Situated in the parking lot of Mile high stadium sat McNichols arena, or Big Mac as it was known to locals.
