FirstOntario Centre opened in 1985 as Copps Coliseum. The building was known as Copps Coliseum from 1985 till 2014. The arena replaced the Barton Street Arena. Barton Street was also known as the Hamilton Forum. The old arena was demolished in 1976. The site is now occupied by housing. The address was

The Centre has had a long list of tenants. First off were the Hamilton Steelhawks of the OHL (85-88), then came the Dukes of Hamilton of the OHL (89-91). The Hamilton Skyhawks of the WBL/NBL played here from 1992-1993. The Hamilton Canucks of the AHL played from 1992-1994. They were followed by teh Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL from 1996-2015. The Hamilton Bulldogs returned for the 2015, only this time with the OHL. The building also was a part time home for the Toronto Raptors of the NBA from 1995-1997.
