Mississippi Coliseum opened in 1962 and is still in use. The Coliseum sits inside the Mississippi State fair grounds in Jackson. The building is used for concerts, trade shows etc. It did have one main tenant, the Jackson Bandits of the ECHL. The Bandits played here from 1999 till 2003 . Unable to secure a new arena, the team disbanded following the 2003 season.

One unique aspect of the Coliseum is that it sits on top of the long extinct Jackson Volcano. The last eruption was about 65 million years ago. The volcano sits 2900 feet below the coliseum.
