Music - lay it down by Ratt

Photographed in 1987, 1989 and 1994 using film.

Ownby Stadium - Opened in 1926 and demolished in 1998. Ownby stadium was the long time home to SMU football. Ownby replaced the sparse Armstrong field (which was later turned into a baseball field). Armstrong was located just to the north of Ownby.

Ownby fell out of favor in the 30's when SMU started playing more games at the Cotton bowl. They moved to the Cotton bowl for good in 1948. They also played games at Texas Stadium in Irving, home of the Cowboys.

After the death penalty in 1987 for major recruiting violations, the football program moved back to a renovated Ownby.

From 1976 thru 1979, the Dallas Tornados of the MISL called Ownby home.

Ownby was antiquated and finally raised after the 1998 season.

A brand new Gerald Ford (NOT the president) rose on the same site.

Location - 5800 Ownby Dr., Dallas, Texas. On the campus of Southern Methodist University.
